Wiltshire Diamond Jubilee Celebration Event – Tuesday 1st May 2012 in Salisbury’s Cathedral Close

A free, medieval-themed event to celebrate Her Majesty the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee will take place in Salisbury’s Cathedral Close on Tuesday 1 May 2012 from 10 am to 5.30pm. The close will play host to a number of activities with performances from actors in period costume and displays of falconry. Maypole and morris dances will take place, as well as Gambian drummers and a medieval combat re-enactment. Armed services personnel will be doing displays and you can try their inflatable assault course challenge or paintballing. There will be 18 spectacular ‘jousting-style’ tents representing the community areas of Wiltshire, packed with activities, local artefacts and displays.

Our South West Wiltshire Area Board will be represented with a tent including an AONB display, live story-telling, youth project work, bell-ringing, a hurdler and many exhibits from contributing parish councils. People are being encouraged to use the Park & Ride sites with buses running every 12 to 15 minutes with the last bus leaving the centre at 6.40pm. Buckingham Palace has confirmed Her Majesty The Queen, accompanied by His Royal Highness The Duke Of Edinburgh, will be visiting the south west, including Salisbury, on 1 and 2 May 2012. You can find out more information here.

Update: Please click here for Salisbury’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations brochure which has detailed information about all the events & tents in the Cathedral Close on 1 May 2012.
